Letter From Fr. Jean Nov. 2004

Posted by Hello

Dear Parishioners of Christ the King,

As many of you may know, with the permission of Father Daly, there is an organization at Christ the King called Help Brings Hope to Haiti, Inc.. The goal of this non-profit organization is to provide the financial means for impoverished children to attend school and to help the needy in Haiti. In just its first year, this group has enabled me to place 13 children into school.

However, during this year Haiti has faced additional challenges - many of which you have read about in the newspapers. Hurricane Jean hit the country and killed more than three thousand people, including a priest who died during rescue efforts. Most recently, supporters of our former President have come back with a violent movement that has killed over twenty six people since the end of September. It is truly a horrible situation.

The answer to these challenges can be found through an education that defeats fear and replaces ignorance.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the children that are attending school due to your generosity and prayers. Please know that I will be praying for you, and thanking God for you. I look forward to seeing you all again on my next visit at the end of November.

Blessings,

Fr. Jean

Gift Idea

Heading home from school Posted by Hello

Unless your family and friends really need another kitchen gadget or electronic gizmo, consider giving the life-changing gift of education to a Haitian child in their name.

Contact HBHH and we'll make all the arrangements so that you will have a wonderful card for their birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion, which tells them of this gift made in their honor.

21 Sponsored children and growing!

Off to school! Posted by Hello

At the end of the last school year we had sponsored a total of 13 children. Thanks to the hard work of the group and the generous support of those who heard of our work, we increased the number of enrolled students to 21 for the Fall term. We're working now to add to that number for the Spring term.

Update on Radio Soleil

Radio is the best way to reach people in Haiti Posted by Hello

Thanks for the generosity of the people of Christ the King, Fr. Jean has been able to make significant improvements to the Catholic Haitian radio station: Radio Soleil.
  • Renovations to the broadcast studio
  • A new van for remote broadcasts
  • A generator so that broadcasts will not be cut by sporadic electrical outages
Fr. Jean was particularly grateful for the donation of the generator, a gift from parishioners Tom and Leanne Voiland. The generator will allow Fr. Jean to increase his ability to spread the Catholic message to the people of Haiti.

HBHH wants to make a direct impact on the Haitian understanding of the Catholic message in the midst of many unorthodox and voodoo faiths that undermine Christianity - especially given the current turmoil in the country.

As you can imagine, radio is the only link to most of the country. When all the renovations are complete and the generator installed, Fr. Jean is hoping to be able to broachcast 24 hrs a day.
